Making a Gift to the Program for the Study of Neurodevelopment in Rare Disorders
The NDRD program is dedicated to helping the families and children with rare neurodegenerative diseases. Families need help in understanding the initial diagnosis, treatment options, and continuing support as their child loses skills and abilities. Families often have many questions about what a diagnosis will mean for their child and what they should be doing now and in the future. We are committed to answering all of a family’s questions. For this reason our assessments usually take between 2-4 hours of evaluation time and 1-3 hours discussing the interpretation of results and providing family counseling. After families leave we continue to be available to titrate medications, speak with local physicians about treatment decisions, write letters to help obtain services, generate reports for IEPs, and much more.
Unfortunately, insurance does not cover most of the services we provide families. These services are almost exclusively supported by donations to the NDRD. Without these donations we would be unable to continue to offer the level of care that we believe these families deserve. When considering making a donation for these diseases please contact Dr. Escolar (maria.escolar@chp.edu) who can discuss how your donation could be used to help families or research. All donations will be used for the activities stipulated by the donor (e.g. family travel, research, producing informational pamphlets, etc.). We understand that each donor may have different goals and are committed to helping them achieve these goals.
