NDRD Services

Dr. Escolar and the team at the NDRD provide ongoing services for more than 700 patients with rare neurodegenerative disorders. These conditions are multisystem disorders, meaning that they affect many of the body’s systems and organs. Our experience, combined with ongoing clinical research, provides the expertise to assess the needs of these children so that we can plan appropriate management, therapies, and palliative care. We also consult with the patient’s local health care providers and educators to assist them in providing care to children with these rare diseases.

NDRD Evaluations

In order to have a clear picture of where each patient is in their disease progression the NDRD clinic assesses multiple neurodevelopmental areas simultaneously. This means that although your child may have had some of the tests at home they may need to be re-evaluated by our team with our protocols. We do this so that we may provide the best care possible. Generally, a patient will receive some combination of the following tests depending on their individual needs and parents’ concerns.
  • Comprehensive physical and neurological exams, including interpretation of clinical test results
  • Hearing tests
  • Neurodevelopment evaluation
  • Cognitive testing
  • Motor testing
  • Speech and language assessment
  • Educational testing
  • Swallow studies
  • Nerve conduction studies
  • MRI
  • Brain Auditory Evoked Potentials (BAERS)
  • Ophthalmologic Evaluation
  • EEG
